Specialized Support for Childhood Continence Challenges
Introduction
Our Continence & Enuresis Service provides expert care and support for children and young people aged 4-19 who face continence challenges. We focus on managing daytime wetting from the age of 5 and nighttime wetting from the age of 7. For younger children, starting from age 4, our Continence Service is dedicated to guiding and supporting both the child and their family towards achieving the best possible outcome in dryness and cleanliness.
Who We Serve
This service is tailored for children with continence needs who are registered with a GP in the NHS Mid Essex area.
Our Services
- Treatment and Support: Offering advice on various treatment methods to help achieve bladder control.
- Family Support: Providing ongoing support to children and their families throughout their journey with us.
- Treatment Options: Utilising a range of treatments, including the provision of alarms on loan following engagement with our service.
- Professional Training: Conducting training sessions for school staff and other professionals involved in the child’s care.
- Personalized Care: Ensuring each patient receives a holistic assessment and individualized treatment plan.
- Regular Reassessments: Conducted annually or as needed, to adapt to the child’s evolving needs.
Clinic Locations and Services
- Nurse-Led Clinics: Specifically for children with primary nocturnal enuresis.
- Assessments: Initially through virtual clinics or phone consultations, with future plans for in-person assessments at home, schools, or other suitable locations.
Clinic Days: Operating 2-3 clinics a week at Springfield Green, St Peters Hospital (Maldon), and Stapleford House (Chelmsford).
Enuresis Interventions: Initial assessments and interventions undertaken by the school nurse, with appropriate onward referrals.

Referral Process:
A referral is required from a healthcare professional such as a GP, nurse, health visitor, school nurse, or social care worker.

Service Location
