Mid And South Essex Long COVID Service

Upcoming changes to the Mid and South Essex Long COVID Service

We wanted to make our patients and service users aware that the Mid and South Essex Long COVID Service is no longer accepting new referrals and will officially be closing on 28 February 2026.

These changes follow the gradual reduction in referrals, both nationally and locally, and the end to national funding for dedicated long COVID services, which were set up temporarily by the NHS, to support those with the long-term effects of COVID-19, during the pandemic. In mid and south Essex, long COVID care is being integrated into existing NHS pathways to make sure people continue to get the right support.

Support is still available

Rest assured that, if you are affected by long COVID, you will continue to receive care and support through your GP and other local services. Your GP will remain your first point of contact and can refer you to the most appropriate services for your symptoms, such as breathing support, fatigue management, mental health, or rehabilitation – depending what’s right for you.

If you are currently being supported by the MSE Long COVID Service, the team will continue to work with you until 28 February 2026 and ensure you have a clear support plan in place before the service ends.

If you are already receiving care for long COVID from your GP or another specialist service, nothing will change for you.

If you are experiencing symptoms of long COVID and are not already receiving care, please speak to your GP in the first instance. They will assess your needs and refer you to the most suitable services.

What if I have questions or concerns?

We understand this change may cause concern and are working closely with local providers to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of care.

If you have questions or need support, please contact: mseicb.enquiries@nhs.net.

If you are already under the care of the MSE Long COVID Service and have a question regarding your individual long COVID related care, please contact Provide.ccc@nhs.net or call 0300 1310 111.
