Dedicated Assessment and Treatment for Long COVID Patients
Overview
The Mid and South Essex Long COVID Team focuses on assessing and treating patients with Long COVID, aiming to restore their functionality. Our team caters to both adults and children and covers patients registered with a GP in the Mid or South Essex area.
What We Do
Comprising of Doctors, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and other health professionals, we strive to aid recovery and manage Long COVID through:
• Comprehensive assessments.
• Tailored advice.
• Support groups.
• Educational programs.
• Rehabilitation services.
While there’s no cure for Long COVID, appropriate management can significantly improve symptoms.
Eligibility Criteria
Primarily, we accept referrals for individuals experiencing Long COVID symptoms for more than 12 weeks, after ruling out other illnesses. Long COVID encompasses ongoing symptomatic COVID-19 (from 4 to 12 weeks) and post COVID-19 syndrome (12 weeks or more). Fewer referrals are accepted for those with symptoms for only 4 weeks, as recovery typically occurs within 12 weeks.
Service Delivery
Our services are primarily delivered virtually, including assessments, educational talks, and group rehabilitation. In-clinic services are available, although limited outside of Mid Essex due to space constraints. The ‘vax van’ is utilised as an alternative in such cases.
Referral Process
Referrals must be made by a healthcare professional, such as a GP or consultant.
